Only a few days remain now until Christmas, and southern Delaware is filled with holiday-themed events, gatherings and fun happenings. Many of our favorites for this weekend are below, so pick the ones you like the most and enjoy!

We also want to mention a very special event, or series of events, happening this weekend in four separate communities in coastal Delaware. The Oldfather Group is hosting its inaugural "Santa's Open House Weekend," with Kris Kringle himself making appearances at all four locations.

Read our previous blog entry on the event HERE and be sure to join us this weekend for fun with Santa, while touring some of the area's finest available homes.

Before or after your visit with us, check out some of our other selections for this weekend. There are many unique options to choose from.

Here are some of our favorites:

Milton Holly Festival (Dec. 12). Milton's history as a top mid-Atlantic holly producer is on display this Saturday as the town's chamber of commerce sponsors what has become a popular holiday event in southern Delaware. Always held on the second Saturday of December, the event features exhibits at several places throughout town, including the Milton Fire Hall, Goshen Hall, the Milton Theater and the Milton Library. For more information, call the Milton Chamber of Commerce at 302-684-1101 or visit www.historicmilton.com.

Victorian Christmas (Dec. 12). For a look at how Christmas was celebrated in centuries past, take a drive west to the city of Seaford and visit the former home of Delaware Gov. William Henry Harrison Ross. The Seaford Historical Society once again hosts the city's Victorian Christmas, with events planned all day on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding with candlelight tours of Harrison's former mansion from 4 to 6 p.m. Visit www.seafordhistoricalsociety.com for more information.

Santa Claus Express (Weekends through Dec. 20). We don't usually post events on this blog from "north of the canal," but we felt this one was too good to pass up. An event perfect for the kids, and even the adults, the "Santa Claus Express" is a 1.5 hour train ride with Santa that leaves the Greenbank Station in Wilmington at 11 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., every Saturday and Sunday. Santa promises to greet everyone on board and has special treats in store for the children. Click HERE for more information.

Weekend Wonderland in Bethany Beach (Dec. 12). The second installment of this December weekend event is planned for this Saturday. Activities scheduled for this week include a brunch with Santa, photos with the jolly one, story time at Bethany Beach Books and Christmas carols led by the Mariner Praise Band. Visit the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce for more information.

Edwards' Christmas Village and Craft Show (Dec. 11-12). This privately run event in Lewes features more than 250 Christmas Village house displays, many with animations, water features and more. Vendors are also on hand selling a wide selection of holiday crafts and treats, and food donations are accepted and donated to Jusst Sooup Ministries. Admission and refreshments are free. Visit the Edwards' Facebook page for more information.

These are just a few of this weekend's fun-filled events here in coastal Delaware. For more ideas on what you can do with your friends and/or family, contact your local chamber of commerce or town hall.

And be on the lookout again next week for more great ideas from the Oldfather Group. Now get out there and enjoy all the things that make living at the Delaware beaches such a wonderful experience!
