If you’ve lived here long enough, or visit the area regularly, a quick look at the calendar will tell you one definitive thing – the summer tourist season is on its way!

And that’s generally a good thing. The weather's going to be warmer, the entertainment options will grow many times over and the promise of hours and hours of fun in the sun will begin dominating our daily schedules.

But, if you’re in coastal Delaware now – from mid-March until the end of April – there are many things to take advantage that won’t be available the closer we get to Memorial Day Weekend. So grasp these opportunities now before they disappear until the fall!

We'll touch on a few options below, and we encourage you to get out and enjoy all that makes living at the Delaware beaches such a great experience, no matter the time of year.

Here are a few “seize the moment” type activities you don’t want to miss out on:

Free Parking. That’s right, it won’t be long before the parking meters spring back to life in all of our coastal resorts. But it hasn’t happened yet – so take a trip to the beach today and take advantage of it! Be it Rehoboth or Bethany or downtown Lewes, now is a perfect time to visit the beach and enjoy a nice sunny day without needing a pocketful of quarters or a credit card, or having to worry about what time you need to be back to the car. But take advantage of it now – the meters will be back out before you know it.

Take the Dog to the Beach and Boardwalk. Dogs are prohibited on the Rehoboth Boardwalk and beach from May 1 until Sept. 30, so get out there and have some fun with your best friend before the season kicks off. Just remember to keep a leash on your dog at all times as Rehoboth does have a strict leash law. While dogs are not allowed in Rehoboth, nearby Dewey Beach does allow pets on the beach before 9:30 a.m. and after 5:30 p.m.

Take a trip on the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Buy a foot passenger ticket and enjoy a nice round trip sailing across the Delaware Bay, before in-season rates kick in and it becomes more expensive to do so.

Play a Round of Golf. This is the best time to hit the links, before the summertime crowds begin their annual migration to the Delaware beaches. There are several courses just waiting for you to tee it up. Read our recent blog entry HERE and decide which course is best for you.

Take a Bike Ride on the Rehoboth Boardwalk. Beginning May 15, bicyclists are only allowed on the Boardwalk until 10 a.m., so take advantage of the early spring weather and do a little biking on the boards.
