This may not be Hershey, Penn., there may not be streetlights made of candy kisses and the whole town may not smell good enough to eat, but this weekend is all about one early season festival here at the Delaware beaches.

That’s right, it’s time once again for the annual event that is the Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival, with this year marking the 26th year of the popular yearly gathering.

Yes, the weather might be nice and yes, the state parks and the beaches and the outlet malls and lots of other mainstays of life in coastal Delaware will be coming to life with the turn of the calendar to April. But for a few hours on Saturday, Rehoboth Beach will be all about chocolate.

Thanks to our local food industry professionals and chocolate experts, there will be chocolate cakes, and chocolate cookies, and chocolate pies and chocolate drinks and chocolate fudge and…well, I think you get the idea!

This year marks the beginning of the second quarter-century of the event, once again organized by Rehoboth Beach Main Street. All proceeds will again benefit the organization that for decades has been committed to the betterment of downtown Rehoboth Beach.

But one important item to note this year – the festival, which is always held at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, has been temporarily relocated to the Atlantic Sands Hotel & Conference Center on the Boardwalk due to renovations currently underway at the convention center.

Because of that, less tickets will be sold that usual. In fact, we’re told that all VIP tickets are already sold out and that only a limited number of general admission tickets will be available on the day of the event. So our advice is simple – if you want to go and you want to participate in this year’s chocolate festival, get there as early as you can to ensure that you and your loved ones will be able to get in on the fun.

General admission tickets will be sold for $15 on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m., at the Atlantic Sands restaurant and at the Atlantic Boardwalk Grille, located on the boardwalk. Tickets include tastes of 10 different chocolate items, and ticket holders can choose between either a 2 p.m. or a 3 p.m. entrance time. Children under 12 will be admitted for $5 and receive tastes of five items.
